Canine College 1 & 2 Testimonials

img_8699Jangala give the check chain the boot

Since starting training in Canine College 1 I'm so pleased with the difference in the relationship between my beautiful golden retriever, Jangala, and me. I had attended a weekly dog training school in rural NSW for 18 months, where I was taught to train Jangala with a metal check chain. This was not enjoyed by either of us, and because he is such a big dog, the chain gave me limited control when he lunged with excitement. I felt demoralised and a failure, and I felt that I was hurting Jangala every time I pulled on the chain. Using the Harmony Harness, and learning how to shape Jangala's behaviour with food and reward has made such a difference! Our time together is fun and positive, and I am able to walk 38kg Jangala with ease and pleasure. I absolutely recommend that anyonewho has a dog - a puppy or of any age - to go to Positive Response Dog Training with Dee and her helpers.

Monty Loves Positive Response

Positive Response Dog Training runs an excellent dog training program for dogs of all ages and breeds. I enrolled myself and my jumping-bean Pug in the program, hoping that I would learn how to "detrain" him from jumping up the backsides of people walking ahead of him. When I initially enquired with Dee Scott about her program, she asked what one behaviour would I like to see differently in Monty. I told her about his "bum" fetish and she giggled. I thought that was an excellent sign in a dog trainer. Though his odd behaviour was amusing, she explained that they would teach me how to modify it to remove the jumping and she convinced me that "positive" reinforcement will work. That's what positive dog training is about, teaching dogs to do things differently in a manner that rewards them, not hurts them. There is no yelling at dogs or choke chains in Dee's classes -- all dogs are taught the basics and then some in Canine College I -- sitting, dropping and walking on signal from their owners;  rewarded with food and positive words for their good deeds. That's why I would recommend Dee and her team to other dog owners.
Kind regards Linda

Boots

Just wanted to say a big thank you to yourself and Andrea after completing Caninetestimonials boots april 09 001 College 1 & 2 with Boots. We thoroughly enjoyed the classes and feel that it certainly is a well worthwhile investment to continue ongoing training. Boots has made excellent progress and is a lot calmer in himself and has picked up on the training really well. We have learnt so much ourselves as owners. It has been fantastic meeting new people and seeing how well all the other dogs have progressed and improved with their training. We thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has a dog!. Well done in running a very professional business and hope to see you soon.

 Siblings no longer a handful.

006 A big thank you to Dee for her guidance throughout the classes that I have attended so far. After bringing home Maddie & Frazer both golden retriever puppies, help was required with these bundles of lively, fluffy joy. Dogs have always been part of our family life for 25 years, but it was some 16 years since a puppy/s had been in our family home.

Beginning with puppy class was so beneficial as times and training methods have changed a lot. I now have dogs who are mat trained, people/children friendly, come when they are called (most of the time!). One of the best words we learnt was "leave" - fabulous!

Also with the help of Dee and Andrea we have seen a huge improvement when they are on their leads. Once fitted with harmony harnesses, people who knew us when we were out walking commented on the great improvement. We are still in training, working in Canine college 2 now and they love the time spent with them at each class, the stimulation and socialisation with other dogs.

I cannot recommend highly enough the worthwhile investment in participating in one or more of Dee's classes, for everyone's benefit. Times have changed, mum's go to work now and puppies get bored, and what starts out as a little cute problem, becomes a terrible family pet out of control if the right training is not applied.  Keep up the great training you do Dee and thank you again.

 I Finally Understand

I love my mum and dad but ever since I came to them I really wasn't sure what they 13112008335wanted. This caused a lot of confusion and yelling and no one was relaxed or happy. That was until my mum got Aunty Dee to come and see me. She came to my house ( I was a bit rude and jumped all over her) and spent some time with us. She was easy to understand and I knew exactly what she wanted. I even started to understand what Mum and Dad wanted me to do. I then joined Canine College 1 which was a bit scary at first, but by the end Mum and I understood each other a lot better. I have a long way to go but I finally understand what they want me to do so I can relax and so can they.

 Ollie a good little fellow

Dee, I must tell you what a good little fellow Ollie has been. He has not faltered once in obeying and in fact we have enough confidence in him now to let him off leash and he will come when called. He has made friends with other dogs & won everyone's heart. The other day he ran madly around on the sand with another dog, played ball, ran through water (tide out) and even plopped in the deeper water the first day quite by accident and had to paddle furiously; plays at the off-lease park with all the other dogs.
Dee, your teaching has made such a difference in Ollie - Bob and I can't believe it.
Thank-you so much.

 Buddy the Beagle

untitledDear Dee i just wanted to write and say how much we enjoyed your dog training classes and to let you know just how getting Buddy under control has meant to us. I was very nervous when we 1st met - we had just rescued a 1 year old Beagle who was manic, a complete nut case,  out of control and very demanding.

We'd no idea about the breed or about how to handle him (we just fell for the big ears and the lovely eyes) and initially i was very anxious - i didn't actually think i'd have been able to cope with him.

8 weeks later after completing Canine Colleege 1 & 2,  i cannot believe the transformation in him. He is just a gorgeous boy who gives us so much pleasure and love, he is well mannered (most of the time) and relaxed and is generally a true pleasure to be around.

Our friends come to the house and cannot believe it is the same dog that arrived 2 months ago. Yes, he is a Beagle and yes he still tests us but that is the 'exeption' now rather than the rule. Our next quest is to try and get him to stay on the mat and off the brand new leather lounge so he can be indoors with me - every week he is learning something new - it is just fantastic.
very best warmest wishes - Denise & Phil Quale & Buddy

Shy Bella Now a Stardscf0370bella

Our Maltese Terrier, Bella began training with Dee at they age of 2. The four week course covered basic commands (Sit, Drop, Stand, Stay, Loose lead walking) as well as providing our family with a growing understanding of dog behaviors in general. One example of these foundations was that during our initial consultation Bella was exhibiting extreme stress levels and now both our family and Dee can see a remarkable improvement. Working with Dee and the Positive Response Dog Training team has been a delight and has provided us with fantastic experience for both Bella and the Dobson family.
Thanks, Dee!

Boston  - Training should never stop

bostonjune08008Our famlily and our beautiful natured Staffy 'Boston' attended puppy class and canine college 1. At the end of those lessons we thought we had the perfect dog. Nine months had past and slowly Boston started to steer off track. We thought we were putting in enough efford but apprarently not. We booked ourselves and Boston into Canine College 2 and quickly realised we needed more training. Dee and Andrea kindly gave us some stern, gentle and extremely effective actions to follow, and by the second lesson Boston became a very responsive dog indeed. We certainly won't be leaving our next training sessions for so long this time. Thankyou so much Dee and Andrea for your invaluable training tips, you have both helped all of us immensely. See you soon.

Kind regards, Gary, Sharon, Lachlan & Amelia.

Lazy Minnie is a treat to have

Minnie the Greyhound came into our lives as a 4 year old ex racer dumped on the doors of the RSPCA. I fell in love with the Greyhound nature. Like my husband, they are lazy, soo affectionate, and are REALLY good with the kids. Being an ex racer and not going through a re-homing program like Friends of the Hound, Minnie came with problems. She made herself boss.

greyhoundThe couch, the clean washing, and the beds (which made for a very unhappy husband) had became hers. The kids were pushed off the couch onto the floor and any food around was hers to be had. Not to mention that racing hounds are taught to catch the small fluffy object, and suddenly, our cat had come to fear for her life, as had the maltese terriers across the road and any other dog that came within two metres of us

Also living inside the home, Minnie was not toilet trained and so went toileting anywhere; on concrete, tiles, carpet she didnt care. She ran into glass doors, windows and pushed the flyscreen door straight out of its frame, and when she escaped into the street she was off! We needed help.

Dee was recommended to us and our Minnie is now a very different dog. She comes when called, yes even when she gets out into the street. Minnie lies on the floor now, not the bed or the couch unless invited, and she doesnt even try now. The other day I saw the cat licking Minnie's leg and Minnie didn't bark or snap. In classes Minnie doesnt always snap or growl as much (still a work in progress) and she is very much improved, to the point were we are doing a little off lead work. She is toilet trained but unfortunately has developed a taste for lego and still continues to steal the kids teddy bears if not put up high. Greyhounds don't usually sit but Minnie has learnt to sit. With Dee she has been getting better and better

I never thought we'd be able to change some of Minnie's behaviours that have been taught and bred into her. If things hadn't worked as they had I was at one stage contemplating sending Minnie back to the RSPCA thinking I had done the wrong thing, but you changed all that and Dee ,

I have never seriously said thankyou, so thankyou from the Goodman family and Minnie

Tao loves Aunty Dee" by Marcia Haskins

testimonials marciaandtaoOur Great Dane Tao learnt a lot from Dee's training classes. He started at 12 weeks and enjoyed the lessons, mixing with other dogs and using the training equipment

Being a large dog, it was important that he behave so he could fit in with our family's lifestyle. He is able to come into the house and we know he will do as he is told and we have no problems with him being out of control, a dangerous thing for a dog his size.

Tao obeys all our commands easily, sits and stay when told, comes when called, goes to the toilet on command and does not barge in front of us when we walk in and out of doorways. He won't jump on us or visitors.Dee showed us how to teach him to walk comfortably by our side without pulling, which makes walks very enjoyable.

The lessons we learnt with Dee have made owning our baby Great Dane an absolute delight. There are times he can be a bit naughty, but he is only 15months old, so he is still testing us. Dee taught us to be consistent and the method works.

We have two dogs in our home, and thanks to Dee's training lessons, our Great Dane is better behaved than our Mini Foxie.

Mickey is now a happy little bloke!

mickeyWe got our little dog Mickey from the local pound. He was a troubled little dog and was very nervous. We enrolled with Dee and within a couple of weeks we saw a dramatic improvement in his behaviour. The basic skills we learnt helped us to get Mickey under control and allow us to do more with him. A great tip was to spread his food out round the yard, it keeps him very busy.

He is a happy little bloke now, thanks Dee.

Labrador sisters no longer a hand full

lab We had our hands full with two magnificent golden retriever, Labrador cross sisters but with the training they received from Dee at Positive Response, we have enjoyed living with very well behaved, happy, well balanced and socialised dogs that are a part of our family.

Thank you Dee! Karen and Gary Klenner

Monet - a changed Labrador monet

We first met Dee Scott when we took our dog Monet, to attend a Positive Response Dog Training Session at Redlands Clinic in Thornlands. For me, this was the second obedience training that Monet had attended, the first in Toowoomba leaving me quite stressed.

Dee could see that I was quite upset, monet pulling me along. I had no control, it was clear to see that Monet was calling the ‘shots'.  Dee explained about leadership rolls in families and that we needed to be clear consise leaders for Monet. Through regular and positive training methods, Monet came to understand commands and differentiate between good and bad behaviour, and she was rewarded through that training. Continual reinforcement of that training had added to a great relationship with dog and owner and Monet is a pleasure. Our success with Monet is a direct result of the regular classes we attended.

Peter and I cannot thank Dee enough for sharing a wealth of experience in assisting us to train Monet.

Sincere Regards
Ellen and Peter Koehler

Freydo's now a great little companion

Not havi freydong had a dog for over 15 years I found that my new little friend was quite a handful and not quite like the docile dogs I had had in the past. Dee helped me to understand and better train my dog. Freydo and I have a much better understanding of each other now.
I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in becoming a smarter dog owner.  May Sheppard
