Canine Good Citizen Test
Congratulations, your instructor believes you and your dog have what it takes to sit your CGC test! You have shown competency and teamwork during classes and have attained a level of competence that makes you eligible!
What is a CGC test?
This test was developed by the Delta Society so that you and your dog could join a select group of people to receive confirmation that you are a responsible dog owner and that your dog is a well mannered member of society.
Why do the CGC test?
Once you have successfully completed your CGC tests, you will receive a certificate from Delta confirming that you and your dog are certified ‘Good Citizens'. You will also be eligible to buy a CGC collar and lead (available only to CGC dogs). This will enable you to ‘show off' your dogs achievement whenever you take him out for a walk!
What does the CGC test involve?
There are 2 components to the test.
1. Written exercise which you will need to take home and complete (it may require you to do a small amount of research with your local council and veterinary practitioner).
2. Practical test - What we want to see here is that your dog is friendly and outgoing, but not over exuberant. We also want to see that you have your dog under control in a variety of situations. This test requires that your dog can:
a. Tolerate grooming/vet inspections
b. Loose leash walk
c. Wait
d. Behave safely when exiting a car
e. Sit calmly for a pat from strangers
f. Calmly pass other dogs
g. Sit, drop and stay
h. Be left for 1 minute
i. Come when called
j. Calm down after playing
